About Liu Yao
Liu Yao (six lines) is a method of divination in which three coins are thrown six times to build a hexagram from the bottom line up. Each line receives a stem and a branch by the Najia method, and the reader then weighs the Six Relatives, Six Spirits, Self and Other lines, voids and the month and day, always for one concrete matter at a time.
This tool only offers coin throws and your own entered results. Casting by clock time or by numbers is the Meihua method; mixing it into Liu Yao would give two contradictory readings for the same moment, so it is not offered here.
Reading the chart in three steps
- Find the Useful God first: money reads Wealth, work reads Officials, documents read Parents, juniors read Descendants, and body or anything else reads the Self line. Whether it is strong in the month and the day is the first layer.
- Then read Self and Other: Self is you, Other is the counterpart or the matter, and how they generate, control or match each other sets the basic direction.
- Last, read movement: what the moving lines change into, whether the changed line supports or restrains them, and whether they turn void or broken — this layer shows how things shift next.
Common questions
- Why six throws?
- Each throw of three coins gives one line, and six throws stack a hexagram from the bottom up. One reverse is young yang, two young yin, three old yang and no reverse old yin; old lines move and turn into their opposite, which gives a primary and a changed hexagram.
- Is a server-side throw insincere?
- The six results are fixed the moment you press begin and are written into the receipt; the animation is only for feel. A receipt lets anyone rebuild the same chart, but it cannot prove what happened at the moment you cast.
- Can I enter coins I threw myself?
- Yes. Choose "I threw real coins" and pick each throw from line 1 to line 6; the receipt records that the lines were entered by you and does not pass them off as a server throw.
- When does the day change?
- At 00:00 on the clock of your own time zone, as the site's BaZi and Meihua do. After 23:00 the chart notes what the day pillar would be under the other convention.
- Can I cast the same matter again?
- Traditionally one matter is not recast. If you ask about the same kind of matter within 24 hours we suggest reviewing the earlier cast first; cast again only when things have really changed.
- Is my question saved or uploaded?
- No. Casting, the chart and the free reading never upload the question; it stays on this device.
