What a Zi Wei Dou Shu (purple star astrology) chart shows
Zi Wei Dou Shu — usually translated as purple star astrology, after Zi Wei, the emperor star at the centre of the system — reads a life through twelve palaces rather than through four pillars. Each palace covers one department of life (self, wealth, career, relationships, and so on), and the stars that land in it describe how that department tends to behave.
The chart is built from the lunar month and the two-hour birth branch. That is why the birth hour matters more here than in BaZi: the hour alone decides which palace becomes the Life Palace, and moving it by one branch rotates the entire chart.
Everything on this page is pure calculation — the same birth data always produces the same chart. There is no model writing text behind the scenes, nothing is scored from 0 to 100, and every school-dependent choice we make is listed under the chart so you can reconcile it against another calculator.
FAQ
- Is this Zi Wei Dou Shu calculator free?
- Yes. The calculator is free, needs no account, and has no daily cap. Paid reports are separate long-form writing built on the same chart — they never change the chart itself.
- What if I do not know my birth hour?
- You can still chart, but be honest about the limit: the Life Palace in Zi Wei is fixed by lunar month and birth hour together. Without the hour the palace layout may not be yours at all, so treat an hourless chart as a rough sketch rather than a reading.
- Why does my chart differ from another site?
- Zi Wei has no single standard. Differences almost always come from a handful of school-level choices — how the late Zi hour is handled, which four-transformation table is used, whether an empty palace borrows from its opposite. Ours are listed under the chart itself — build one and you can compare line by line.
- How is this different from a BaZi chart?
- BaZi reads the balance of five elements across four pillars; Zi Wei maps stars onto twelve palaces. They answer different questions, and on the same birth data they often disagree — which is useful. You can chart both here and compare them side by side.
