The traditional seasonal sequence assigns Pig, Rat, and Ox to the three stages of winter. All three form the winter Water Seasonal Assembly (三会). Pig comes first and Ox last, with Rat between them. Ox–Pig supplies the two endpoints as birth-year signs; the seasonal map explains their membership without supplying the missing middle branch.

Seasonal membership also has a specific scope. Placing Pig in the winter sequence does not establish that a Pig-year person was born in a winter month. A zodiac sign uses the Year Branch, while a person's birth season requires Month Pillar information. Keeping those fields separate makes the shared winter setting precise.

How Ox can contain Water while its primary element stays Earth

Ox's hidden stems are Yin Earth, Yin Water, and Yin Metal. Pig's are Yang Water and Yang Wood. Water within Ox and Earth as its primary element can both be true. The primary element is the representative field used in this simplified comparison; it is not a list of everything contained in the branch.

Expanding the hidden stems reveals Water on both sides, but this page still compares Ox's Earth with Pig's Water. That produces the controlling relationship. Assessing the strength of hidden stems in a complete chart would additionally require seasonal conditions, exposed stems, and other pillar positions. Two lists of stems are not two people's element percentages.

Element control and a clash answer different questions

Earth controlling Water describes a relationship between elements. Six Clash (六冲) identifies particular branch pairs: Ox with Goat, and Pig with Snake. Ox–Pig does not match that table, so element control does not add a second clash deduction. Nor do they share a Three Harmony (三合) group: Ox belongs to the Metal group and Pig to the Wood group shown above.

The score starts at 70 and subtracts five for element control, giving 65. There is no additional branch adjustment or dimension offset. Seasonal Assembly (三会) is outside this score, so the result does not represent a winter-group bonus being cancelled by element control.

Keep each shared feature at the level where it was found

Ox–Pig has overlapping seasonal membership and overlapping hidden-stem elements, while its primary elements remain Earth and Water. Reading those facts together gives more information than choosing only the word 'harmony' or 'control.' Each label retains the level of evidence that produced it.

The 65 is an index from traditional classification rules, not a success rate for marriage, friendship, or cooperation. For questions about the actual people, zodiac inputs contain no record of commitments, responsibilities, or experience. A full chart comparison would instead retain each person's Year, Month, Day, and Hour data before examining specific interactions.
