The production cycle runs from Wood to Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and back to Wood. Ox's Earth and Monkey's Metal occupy one adjacent step, so the direction is specifically Earth producing Metal. Reversing the order of the people on screen does not make Metal produce Earth. It only changes which person is listed first.

Traditional explanations often describe the producing element as giving and the receiving element as being supported. The subjects of that statement are elements. Turning it into 'the Ox person should pay and the Monkey person should receive' introduces a claim the inputs do not support. Year Branch elements contain no information about income, shared labor, or care needs.

Why Monkey's Metal does not place it in Ox's Metal group

Ox belongs to the Snake–Rooster–Ox Metal group. Its other members are specifically Snake and Rooster, not every branch whose primary element is Metal. Monkey has Metal as its primary element but belongs to the Monkey–Rat–Dragon Water group. Three Harmony (三合) is identified by its named members; an element name cannot replace a branch identity.

Earth producing Metal between Ox and Monkey is therefore distinct from the Metal group containing Ox. The first compares two primary elements, while the second names a particular branch combination. A shared connection with Metal does not earn this pair a group bonus or make it a half-combination (半合) of that group.

Why 75 contains no additional harmony bonus

Six Harmony (六合) also specifies partners: Ox with Rat, and Monkey with Snake. No listed harmony, Six Clash (六冲), Punishment (相刑), or Six Harm (六害) relationship applies between Ox and Monkey in this table. The relationship adjustment is zero, while production adds five to 70. No dimension offset applies, so love, friendship, and work remain at 75.

This is why production can be present while a named harmony still requires a separate check. A source saying that Ox and Monkey 'get along' may be speaking informally rather than identifying one of the technical harmony categories. That ordinary phrase cannot be substituted for a scoring condition.

Returning the elemental direction to its actual chart positions

A fuller reading would need the positions of Ox and Monkey within the Year, Month, Day, or Hour Pillars, together with each chart's seasonal context and Day Master. This page compares two birth-year signs. It has not established that either person benefits from Earth or needs Metal, and it has not substituted a Year Branch for a Day Branch or spouse palace.

What this pair supplies is a precise classification: production between elements, without membership in a shared harmony group. Who takes initiative or provides care belongs to the two people's experience and agreement. Earth producing Metal does not require a relationship in which one person permanently gives and the other is entitled to receive.
