Dragon–Monkey Compatibility: A Water Group with Rat Still Missing

Dragon–Monkey scores 93 overall, with 94 for love, 96 for friendship, and 98 for work. Two distinct classifications contribute: Dragon's primary Earth produces Monkey's primary Metal, and both belong to the Monkey–Rat–Dragon Three Harmony (三合) Water group. Only Monkey and Dragon are present in this pair; Rat is still absent. Shared group membership is established, while the complete three-member set is not. Both statements belong in the reading.

Why two scoring relationships introduce three elements

At the primary-element level, Dragon–Monkey compares Earth and Metal, with Earth producing Metal. At the group level, Monkey, Rat, and Dragon are assigned to Water. Earth, Metal, and Water appear together because the first two describe individual branches and the third names their group. This does not immediately turn Dragon's Earth or Monkey's Metal into Water.

Ox–Monkey provides a useful contrast. Ox's Earth also produces Monkey's Metal, but Ox is not a member of Monkey–Rat–Dragon; Dragon is. Both pairs receive a production adjustment, and only Dragon–Monkey receives the shared-group adjustment in this table. The difference comes from specific membership.

Keep the missing Rat position explicit

Dragon–Monkey supplies two of the three members of Monkey–Rat–Dragon. Rat, the middle member in that list, is not part of the input. Traditional sources differ in how they name two-member configurations. When reading terms such as half-combination (半合) or arching combination (拱合), first check whether the existing branches and the missing member are clearly identified.

This page uses a broad shared-group classification for two members, with the Three Harmony (三合) label marking membership of one specified group. It has not verified all three branches or a transformation into Water. That preserves the actual scoring condition without expanding two people's Year Branches into a complete chart configuration.

Trace 93, 94, 96, and 98 to their calculation

Start at 70, add 18 for shared Three Harmony (三合) membership, then add five for primary-element production: the overall score is 93. With this as the primary relationship, the model adds one for love, three for friendship, and five for work, producing 94, 96, and 98. The differences come from preset weights, not separate statistical studies of the three relationships.

A work score of 98 does not guarantee a successful partnership, suitability for a startup, or effortless cooperation. It is a high output within this simplified classification. The inputs contain two zodiac signs, without describing skills, resources, or shared goals. Keeping the calculation visible explains the actual scope of the score.

A third sign changes the question being asked

A Rat Year Branch belonging to another person, or Rat in a particular year, has its own subject and time scope. Such information may become input to a new question. It should not be silently inserted into the original two-person Dragon–Monkey comparison as though the initial result had already included three branches.

A fuller comparison would preserve each person's pillar positions and identify the source of every branch. A group name provides a lookup clue; an actual chart configuration requires the complete evidence. A two-sign score has not performed that additional assessment.

Shared group membership can coexist with different harmony partners

Dragon's Six Harmony (六合) partner is Rooster, and Monkey's is Snake. Dragon–Monkey receives the shared Three Harmony (三合) label, not a Six Harmony (六合) label. A branch can have a specific partner in one table and belong to a group in another; their conditions remain separate.

Dragon–Monkey is distinguished by that intersection: primary-element production, shared group membership, and different partners in the pairwise harmony table. Retaining those exact categories explains 93 more clearly than treating every favorable label as a declaration of a perfect match.

Frequently asked questions

Have Dragon and Monkey already transformed into Water?

This page establishes membership of Monkey–Rat–Dragon only. Rat is absent from this pair, and complete-chart transformation conditions have not been assessed, so it makes no Water-transformation judgment.

Can Dragon–Monkey be called a half-combination?

Usage of half-combination (半合) and arching combination (拱合) varies across sources, and Rat is missing here. This article uses the explicit description 'two members of one Three Harmony (三合) group'; the scoring label means shared membership.

Why is the group Water when Monkey is Metal?

Monkey's primary element and the element assigned to Monkey–Rat–Dragon are separate fields. Naming the group does not erase Monkey's primary Metal.

Does changing the genders or order change the high score?

No. Gender is not used in this calculation. Reversing the order retains Dragon's Earth producing Monkey's Metal, shared Water-group membership, and 93/94/96/98.
