Ox–Dragon Compatibility: Same Earth, Different Branches
Ox and Dragon both belong to Earth in this comparison. Does that make them a natural harmony pair? The useful distinction is between sharing an element and sharing a specified branch relationship. This page scores them 72 overall and 72 for love, friendship, and work. That is a same-element adjustment within a simplified rule set, not a claim that the people have identical personalities or a 72 percent chance of a successful marriage. If another source describes Ox and Dragon as a Break pair, the first question is which relationships each source includes.

Shared Earth and an identical sign are different inputs
The primary element of both Ox and Dragon is Earth. This comparison uses that field; it does not expand hidden stems, seasonal conditions, or the balance of either complete chart. Shared Earth therefore establishes neither strong Earth in both charts nor two people who are conservative, careful savers, or resistant to change. Those descriptions would require information about the people.
This page reserves Same-sign Affinity (比和) for identical zodiac signs, such as Ox with Ox. Ox and Dragon are distinct branches, so they do not receive that bonus. Other traditions may use the term more broadly. Before comparing numbers, check the definition: the two points for a shared element must not be combined with five points for an identical sign when that second condition is absent.
Why two Earth branches belong to Metal and Water groups
Ox belongs to the Snake–Rooster–Ox Metal group; Dragon belongs to the Monkey–Rat–Dragon Water group. Three Harmony (三合) membership is not found by simply adding the primary elements. An Earth branch can belong to a specified group associated with another element. For Ox and Dragon, this is the decisive contrast: the same primary element, but different networks of relationships.
They are not two members of one group, and sharing Earth does not create an Earth group. Nor does Ox's membership of a Metal group transfer to Dragon. Two members of a group must also be distinguished from all three members being present. Even a complete group does not by itself supply every condition needed for a further transformation judgment. This two-sign comparison has not established those conditions.
How 72 and a traditional Break label can coexist
The calculation starts at 70. No relationship in the current table applies between these two branches, so the relationship adjustment is zero; shared Earth adds two. There is no additional dimension adjustment, leaving all three subscores at 72. These are outputs of a defined classification, not probabilities derived from a sample of actual Ox–Dragon couples.
Some traditional tables list Ox–Dragon under Six Breaks (六破). This zodiac scoring model does not include that category. Its 72 cannot establish that the traditional label does not exist, or that the effect was calculated and cancelled out. Comparing the categories and weights used by different sites is more informative than treating their numbers as competing measurements. A term translated as 'break' also does not establish that a particular relationship will break up.
What shared birth-year Earth still leaves unanswered
For this pair, the known similarity concerns the primary elements of the Year Branches, not the two Day Masters. A Year Branch does not stand in for a Day Branch, and a zodiac sign cannot supply a missing Day Branch. Whether either chart benefits from Earth, or whether a relationship involves the spouse palace, remains unanswered. Even with complete charts, the person's identity and each pillar's position must be retained.
Ox man–Dragon woman and Ox woman–Dragon man receive the same result because gender is not an input to this calculation. Reversing the labels cannot justify inventing opposite character portraits. Commitments, disagreements, and trust have their own real evidence. Keeping shared Earth, identical branches, and group membership distinct prevents a friendly-sounding category from making a decision on two people's behalf.

Frequently asked questions
Are Ox and Dragon a clash pair?
They are not a Six Clash (六冲) pair here. Ox clashes with Goat, and Dragon with Dog. The Ox–Dragon Break label cannot be renamed as a clash.
Is shared Earth better than Earth producing Metal?
The element adjustment is two for sharing and five for production, but the total also depends on the specific branches. Neither weight is evidence that one real partner is better than another.
Does Dragon's self-punishment apply to Ox–Dragon?
This table applies Dragon Self-punishment (自刑) to Dragon–Dragon. Ox–Dragon is a different input and cannot borrow that label.
Is 72 a threshold for getting married?
No marriage threshold is defined. The score is a simplified index of traditional categories, not a scientifically validated marriage forecast or a defined real-world outcome.
