You — One Hidden Stem, Many Roles
You has an unusually simple interior: its only hidden stem is Yin Metal. Yet that single stem can signify authority, resources, expression or wealth, depending on the Day Master. The tenth Earthly Branch makes a useful distinction visible: a simple composition does not produce a single interpretation.

Concentration
Unlike Monkey, which contains Metal, Water and Earth, Rooster concentrates its hidden qi in one stem. The polished-metal image captures this focus without making it a claim about someone's tastes or appearance.
The autumn centre
Rooster is the peak member of the Metal frame and the middle branch of autumn. Peak is a position in a seasonal system; it does not mean every chart containing Rooster has excessive Metal.
A clear reference
One hidden stem makes the Ten God calculation easy to follow. For Yin Earth it is Eating God; for Yin Wood it is Seven Killings. The stem stays the same while its relationship to the person changes.
What is hidden inside
- Yin Metal100%Primary qi · Metal
Only Yin Metal is hidden in You, so the hidden-stem graphic shows 100% Metal. That percentage belongs to this branch's composition diagram. It is not the Metal percentage of a complete chart, nor a score for strength or character.

The Rooster hour spans 17:00–19:00. Rooster month runs from White Dew to Cold Dew, approximately September 8–October 7, and contains the autumn equinox. Exact solar-term boundaries vary each year; local sunset is not the clock boundary.

酉 and the other eleven
Dragon–Rooster Six Harmony is assigned to Metal. Earth supporting Metal is one part of its explanation, but actual transformation requires conditions beyond the two branches simply being present.

Year branch
At the year position, You supplies a specific branch fact for the family-background layer. It does not establish the native's Day Master: a Rooster birth year includes several possible year stems and many possible day pillars.
Month branch
The month position is where You's autumn Metal gains seasonal authority. A Yin Metal Day Master has a direct root here; a Yin Earth Day Master instead encounters an outlet through Eating God.
Day branch — spouse palace
For a Yin Fire day pillar, the Yin Metal inside You is Indirect Wealth. For a Yin Water day pillar it is Indirect Resource. These distinct spouse-palace structures explain why two Rooster day branches cannot be read as the same relationship.
Hour branch
At the hour position, the same Yin Metal occupies the traditional later-life and output layer. Its Ten God role still follows the Day Master; an evening birth alone does not establish a profession or a child's traits.
The five 酉 day pillars
Each stem that can sit on this branch makes a different pillar. Open one for the full profile.
- Yin Wood RoosterYin Wood meets Yin Metal as Seven Killings. There is no hidden Wood root in You; support, if present, must be found elsewhere in the chart.
- Yin Fire RoosterYin Fire sits on Indirect Wealth through Yin Metal. The role names what Fire controls, not how much money someone will earn.
- Yin Earth RoosterYin Earth produces Yin Metal as Eating God. This is an output relationship, distinct from the authority encountered by Yin Wood.
- Yin Metal RoosterYin Metal sits directly on its own root as Companion. Rooting is clear, but whether additional Metal helps remains a whole-chart question.
- Yin Water RoosterYin Water receives Yin Metal as Indirect Resource. The branch supports Water through production without containing a Water stem itself.
A classical note
You means that things have grown old; hence the name You.
Records of the Grand Historian, Treatise on Pitch Pipes
The ancient line places Rooster after the year's vigorous growth. Its language of ageing refers to the seasonal cycle, not a person's age, appearance or lifespan. The polished-metal illustration is a teaching metaphor, separate from that classical explanation.
Frequently asked questions
Does 100% Metal mean my chart is all Metal?
No. The graphic describes the one hidden stem inside this branch. The full chart also includes the other branches, visible stems and seasonal relationships.
Are all Rooster day pillars alike?
No. The five valid day pillars pair Rooster with five different Yin stems. Its hidden Yin Metal becomes Seven Killings, Indirect Wealth, Eating God, Companion or Indirect Resource respectively.
Does a single Rooster cause self-punishment?
No. Two occurrences must be identified in the relevant natal or timing positions. The relationship still needs contextual interpretation.
Is Rooster automatically a Peach Blossom?
Not from its presence alone. A common method assigns Rooster as Peach Blossom when the reference year or day branch belongs to Monkey–Rat–Dragon. The reference and method must be stated.
